All aboard the Asparagus Express!
Running from the recently reopened Broadway Station to Cheltenham Station, celebrate St George’s Day and the launch of the British Asparagus Festival with an asapara-tastic unique steam train journey!

Starting on St Georges Day – 23rd April – traditionally the start of the English Asparagus Growing season – the Festival begins with The Great English Asparagus Run- a Beau Jolais type event with a giant round of asparagus being taken to prestigious locations throughout the Country. We’ve been to Buckingham Palace, Leicester, Broadway, Worcester Cathedral (now infamous!), and this year we’re also celebrating the reopening of nearby Broadway station – all aboard the Asparagus Express!

The Asparagus Express will be the first non stop train for 100 years to travel from Broadway to Cheltenham.

Morgan cars and other classics, will gather at the Fleece from 9am, to enjoy a little music & dancing before all heading off to Broadway station. The Asparagus Express Steam Train departs at 10.30am to Cheltenham Racecourse, returning around midday (please note there is only the one return train).

Expect plenty of Asparatastic entertainment on the train & platforms including music with Fiddlesticks and more, plus  The Asparamancer, Bobby the Asparahorse and not forgetting – Gus!

Tickets for this unique event, Asparagus Express cost £25 including an asparagus and sausage bap and tea/coffee at Cheltenham.

VIP tickets sold out. Please note access to the footplate is not allowed if alcohol has been consumed beforehand.

9.30am – VIPs coach departs to Broadway station

10am – Train arrives at Broadway Station
