Benji Kirkpatrick is one third of acclaimed ‘bloke folk’ trio, Faustus and was a key member of the recently disbanded folk big band and BBC Award winners Bellowhead. He spent three years in the Seth Lakeman Band having featured on Seth’s successful releases ‘Kitty Jay’ and ‘Freedom Fields’. He has also released four solo albums, the latest ‘Hendrix Songs’, saw him strip back the songs of his hero and set them in a new, acoustic light.
Benji’s latest project The Excess, is an acoustic rock trio featuring Pete Flood (Bellowhead) on drums and Pete Thomas on Double and Electric Bass. Whilst focusing on Benji’s own songwriting skills for the majority of the material, the trio also acknowledge a few of their influences with songs by Jimi Hendrix and Richard Thompson. The power of the trio also allow Benji to explore new arrangments of instrumentals too, whilst they’re a sensitive enough bunch to allow a few beautiful ballads too.
